Remembering Sabina Moraa Achira

It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Sabina Moraa Achira, who transitioned peacefully in 2026 at the remarkable age of 104. Born in 1922 in Ikuruma Village, Kitutu Chache in Kisii County, Sabina lived a rich, impactful life rooted in deep faith, hard work, and boundless love for her family and community.

Early Life and Background

Sabina was born to the late Tengeri Ombari and Bathseba Kemunto, as the seventh-born in a loving family of ten children. She grew up alongside her late siblings—Simion, Nyamboki, Josiah, Nyaboe, Zablon, Otachi, Kwamboka, Nyasuguta, Milka, and Momanyi.

Family and Professional Life

Sabina was joined in traditional marriage (ye'bitinge) to the late Isaack Achira Onyambu, with whom she built a massive and loving family. She was a devoted mother to the late Nyamongo, the late Jeremiah, the late Samuel, the late Kibagendi, the late David, the late Tom, Martha, Rebeccah, John, Mary, Teresa, Zachariah, Bogonko, Margret, and Esther. Her legacy lives on through her 83 grandchildren, 160 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

An industrious farmer and shrewd businesswoman, Sabina cultivated vegetables, maize, beans, and bananas, and kept livestock. She sold fresh farm produce, milk, and cooked porridge as a primary source of income to diligently educate her children.

Faith and Community Legacy

A staunch Christian, Sabina was baptized into the Kenyoro PAG Church. She was deeply vibrant in church work, spearheaded numerous initiatives, and loved reciting her favorite scriptures—Psalm 23 and Psalm 139:16—alongside singing Ekegusii hymns 362 and 314.

Known for her warm, jovial, and enthusiastic spirit, Sabina was a friend to people from all walks of life. Her home was always filled with warmth, giving hands, and a joyful presence that brought people together.
